Description

Made in Russia by the Verbilky Porcelain Factory, founded by Franz Gardner in 1766. The cup and saucer brightly painted with battle scenes from Russian Civil War in reserves, the reminder of the body painted deep red and gilded, stamped factory mark. Has the factory logo on the bottom and made circa 1920's. Dmitrovsk is the former Gardner Porcelain Factory and the battle scenes from Defense(Tachanka)service are painted on shapes designed in the late nineteenth century when factory became part of M.S,Kuznetsov ceramics empire. The combination of laborious hand painting and gilding on these delicate shapes make it clear that this service was intended for the Sviet elite who might recall their daring exploits in the Civil War from the vantage point of the drawing or dining room two decades later.
Very good condition. No chips, cracks or restoration.
